Create a Priority List
Create a list of your needs to use as a guide for selecting the right neighborhood and home. To start, some important items to consider are:
- Current and future needs of yourself and your family
- Number of bedrooms and bathrooms
- Garage, storage, and cabinet space
- Entertainment space (yard, living room, kitchen)
- Neighborhood amenities (open space, trails, pool)
- Proximity to work, schools, transportation, shopping, and recreation
Explore the Neighborhood
Visit the neighborhood where you would most like to live. Walk through the neighborhood, visit the local stores, schools, and churches. Explore the local parks, recreation facilities, and other community amenities. It's also a good idea to visit the neighborhood more than once, on different days, and at different times of day. Choose Your Builder
Research builders to find the best match for you. Some things to consider may be:
- Reputation and Experience
- Your Team- Meet the sales counselor and the building superintendent. You'll be working closely with these people while your home is being built, so it's important you have a good working relationship.
- Warranty - What type of warranty does the builder offer? What is covered and for how long?
- Established Communities - Tour past neighborhoods that your builder has developed or built in. This will give you an idea of what your community will look like down the road.
- Current Home Owners - Talk to current home owners about the builder's quality and customer service.

Understand the Process
Building a new home is detailed and usually takes between 4 to 6 months. However, this can vary greatly depending on the season, weather conditions, and the time it takes to make selections, get developer approvals, obtain permits, and complete construction. Understanding the process and being able to discuss it with your Sales Counselor will help you plan appropriately for the day you move into your new home. Building a Home
